I am one of various young people employed by record companies, and often find myself in a dual role of bringing material into the company and promoting the company's recordings in clubs or amongst particular audiences. The employment of staff like myself enhances my company's image by presenting a 'hip' and knowledgeable face to prospective artists, and if like myself they are working part time as a club dj or journalist these staff may bring a further network of contacts within the orbit of the company. In the course of their work talent scouts become acquainted with the junior A&R staff at other companies and hence they are able to provide useful information about what is going on elsewhere.
